Dr dear Dr: Diplomatically speaking, is a 1939 Poland now looming for Britain and Ukra - is there anything that can be done to stop a foolish and blind slide into a warzone within a month or two?
This last week Boris has escaped from the fury and furore of more speculations about booze and especially regarding some drunken parties among aides and civil servants at Downing Street as he suddenly took an RAF flight out to Kiev and then stepped onto the world stage of a 1939 Neville Chamberlain Moment with president Zhelensky of the Ukra territories over there along the Black Sea, and black the mood very much had been until the bungling buzzing buffoon arrived, proving himself to be but a loveable rogue in the Churchillian mode. It might be a 1939 Poland moment for the Allies of the Eu and the Nato forces, but it need not be, since life changes, and much has changed since 1939 in the larger continentale of Europe. If the UK Brits play their cards carefully and very close to their chests they might yet pull a white rabbit out of the top hat of this latest font of tension between East and West.
If anything we might listen to the Russians for a little while, and accept that for them this is not 1939 Poland but more like 1962 Cuba, with insensitive Eu leaders parking missiles all over the place so close to flying times to Moscow - unacceptable for the USA at their time, but also unacceptable to the Russians in their timeframe too. Vladimir and Dimitri have repeatedly warned America that Ukraine is a Cuba for them and asked the Americans to back off this suicidal and ill-informed pathway to destruction of their forces there, much like the Russians had to destroy all the CIA hardware in South Ossetia and Northern Georgia when they invaded those regions, regions that the Americans had festooned with listening devices and missiles too. So America is playing the bad boy and is fostering bad blood between two nations that should be friendly, leave aside all those silly hoaxes and rumours about foreign actors in American elections last time around, in 2016 and 2020. Gloom and Doom USA republicans are foaming and fulminating about the Russian Christian Empire, but the shoe is now on the other foot in terms of international protection for the Christians and their mild and mellow bishops. We shall see.
