Russia? Or is it still the bad old USSR for many old style politicos in the slightly potty Western Eurozone? Or even for the younger crowd who simply cannot now remember the old days of the old Cold War? And the slide of the old USSR into greater freedom and latitude as a result of the Gorbachov and Yeltsin years, very possibly this too? Nowhere even among the normally sanguine Democrats is there a nod or a genuflection to the modern reality of a Christian Empire arisen like a strange ghost out of the ethereal mists north of the Bosphorus. Like somehow like Constantine unfurling his banner of the face of Christ before battle with the old pagan pluralists. Democrats do not seem to have taken on board that they are now dealing with a Christian Federal State, nor do they seem to understand that when Coveney and others in Ireland come to an Agreement and a nod and wink with the Dimtri’s of the Russians that this is a new situation and not an old one.
